Rosen, Cortez Masto Announce Nearly $15 Million in Funding to Address Homelessness and Housing Insecurity in Southern Nevada

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that the Las Vegas/Clark Continuum of Care program – a local planning body that coordinates assistance for families and individuals experiencing homelessness – will receive $14,981,348 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to connect vulnerable individuals and families to housing, health care, and supportive services.

“Housing insecurity is a serious issue that disproportionately affects our state, and we must take action to provide all Nevadans with a safe, affordable place to call home,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to announce local governments will receive nearly $15 million to help provide shelter and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Southern Nevada. I will continue working in the Senate to increase the availability of affordable housing and address housing insecurity.”

“This funding I secured will support organizations across the state that are doing important work on the ground to end homelessness in our communities,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Nevada has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the country, and I’m working to secure every resource possible to help families find a safe, affordable place to call home.”

Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have been actively working at the federal level to lower housing costs and increase the availability of affordable housing for Nevadans. They both helped pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which included nearly $165 million in funding to Nevada for emergency rental assistance, as well as the funding for Nevada’s $500 million Home Means Nevada Initiative. Senator Rosen also led the efforts in Congress to secure $166 million in the most recent bipartisan government funding bill for NeighborWorks, which directly funds Nevada HAND — a nonprofit developer, builder, and manager of affordable rental homes for seniors and working families.
