During Hispanic Heritage Month, Rosen Co-Sponsors Bipartisan Resolution Honoring Hispanic-Serving Institutions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), announced her co-sponsorship of a bipartisan resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 523 non-profit Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout our nation. The resolution observes the week of September 14th through September 20th as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week.

“It is an honor to recognize the invaluable work that HSI institutions do in providing a quality education to our Hispanic communities across the nation and Nevada,” said Senator Rosen. “I will continue working in Congress to ensure that Nevada’s higher education institutions have the necessary resources to provide all Nevadans with the education, tools, and skills they need to succeed.”

BACKGROUND: Nevada is home to four Hispanic-Serving Institutions, including: the College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Truckee Meadows Community College, the University of Nevada Las Vegas; and two emerging HSIs: the University of Nevada Reno and Western Nevada College.

Last year, Senator Rosen co-sponsored this same resolution as well as bipartisan legislation that would authorize the Smithsonian Institution to create a museum honoring American Latinos.
