Rosen Announces $1.3 Million in Historic Preservation Grants to Nevada Tribes and State

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that the National Park Service (NPS) has awarded a series of state, local, and Tribal preservation grants totaling $1,338,126 to Nevada Tribes and the state to assist in the preservation and protection of historically significant sites.

“The histories and cultures of our tribal communities are invaluable, and we must preserve and honor them,” said Senator Rosen. “I am pleased to see this grant funding go to Nevada Tribes as they continue to preserve their rich cultural histories for future generations and protect their historically significant sites. I will continue working to support Nevada’s tribal communities in every way I can.”

BACKGROUND:  Administered by the NPS, these funds are appropriated annually by Congress from the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF). Since its inception in 1977, the HPF has provided more than $2 billion in historic preservation grants to states, tribes, local governments, and non-profit organizations. 

The Tribal Preservation Grant funding will be distributed as follows:

  • Duckwater Shoshone Tribe

  • Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe

$70,612 

  • Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe

$89,258 

  • Reno Sparks Indian Colony

$72,447 

  • Walker River Paiute Tribe

$86,920 

  • Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California

$69,152 

The state of Nevada will receive $874,470 through the HPF’s State and Local Preservation Grant.
