Rosen Applauds $4 Million FEMA Grant Funding Awarded to Reno for Seismic Retrofit of City Hall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement applauding news of a grant totaling $4,000,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded to the city of Reno for a seismic upgrade of their City Hall.

“I’m pleased to see that FEMA is providing these funds to Reno which will allow them to make necessary structural updates to their City Hall,” said Senator Rosen. “Since April 1st, there have been almost 200 seismic events throughout Nevada. This funding will strengthen critical structures and ensure the building is better able to withstand future seismic events.”

BACKGROUND: This grant will fund seismic retrofits within the City Hall building at 1 East 1st Street in Reno, Nevada. The project will retrofit the building with seismic fluid dampers to absorb the shock energy of earthquakes and reduce future damage from seismic events. The work includes adding seismic dampers to floors 7 through 16, strengthening critical column splices, and strengthening critical beam-to-column connections.
