WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, released the following statement applauding the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for awarding multiple Airport Improvement Program grants, totaling $11,626,321, to the state of Nevada.
“Nevada’s airports see tens of millions of visitors each year, helping drive our local economy,” said Senator Rosen. “These Department of Transportation grants will be used for infrastructure repairs and improvements that our airports need to keep our travel and tourism industry strong. I will continue working in Congress on funding that improves our state’s infrastructure and economy.”
BACKGROUND: The Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program provides grant funding to airports across the country in order to strengthen our nation’s aviation infrastructure. Funding is awarded based on airport passenger volume and demonstrated project needs.
The grant funds will be awarded as follows:
• $7,500,000 awarded to McCarran International to reconstruct aprons, which is where planes park and load passengers.
• $1,972,299 awarded to Henderson Executive Airport to update the airport master plan study and install and rehabilitate runway lighting.
• $1,000,000 awarded to Elko Regional Airport to reconstruct and rehabilitate taxiways, aprons, and runways.
• $684,375 awarded to Beatty Airport to reconstruct and rehabilitate taxiways, aprons, and runways and to add new perimeter fencing.
• $469,687 awarded to Tonopah Airport to update the airport master plan study.
