Rosen Education, Health, and Conservation Amendments Passed by Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement announcing that two of her amendments were included in the managers package for the Fiscal Year 2020 appropriations “Minibus” that passed the Senate today by a bipartisan vote of 84 to 9. Rosen voted in favor of final passage of the spending bill, which funds programs at the Departments of Interior, Commerce, Justice, Agriculture, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, along with those at the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, and several other smaller agencies.

“Improving access to health and education programs, as well as increasing investments in conservation and restoration, is deeply important to Nevada,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m glad to see my amendments included in the appropriations package that just passed the Senate. I will continue working in Congress to support our students, access to healthcare for our rural and underserved populations, and our waters and public lands.”

BACKGROUND: Senator Rosen’s amendments included in the bill are:

Rosen #1161 (Distance Learning & Telemedicine): A bipartisan amendment Senator Rosen filed with Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) that increases funding for grants for telemedicine and distance learning in rural areas by $1 million. Last Congress, then-Congresswoman Rosen co-sponsored several bills that would have improved access to telehealth services. This includes ensuring that telehealth services for stroke victims are eligible under Medicare, expanding telehealth coverage for home dialysis and remote patient monitoring, and expanding telehealth programs for rural and Native American populations.

Rosen #1160 (Lake Tahoe Restoration): An amendment also backed by Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) that sets aside over $4 million for Lake Tahoe invasive species mitigation through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Resource Management account.
