LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), joined representatives of Nevada Health Link, as well as Governor Steve Sisolak, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford in support of the state’s health care open enrollment kick-off.
“We are in the midst of a global pandemic that has impacted far too many. Health care coverage is now more critical than ever,” said Senator Rosen. “I am proud to join with Nevada Health Link and state leaders in order to encourage Nevadans to explore coverage options and take part in open enrollment, which runs until January 15th. I will continue working in Congress to protect the health and well-being of hardworking Nevada families in all corners of our state.”
BACKGROUND: In one of her first actions in the Senate, Senator Rosen joined Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) in introducing a resolution that would authorize Senate Legal Counsel to intervene in Texas v. United States – a lawsuit now pending before the Supreme Court as California v. Texas – on behalf of the U.S. Senate, in order to defend the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act and its coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
Last year, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the Family Coverage Act, legislation that would amend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to provide tax credits to offset the cost of health insurance to spouses and children when an individual’s employer-sponsored coverage is not affordable for their family.
Last year, Senator Rosen also co-sponsored legislation to block implementation of the Trump Administration’s rule expanding short-term health insurance plans that do not include protections for pre-existing conditions or provide essential health benefits.
