Rosen Leads Colleagues in Requesting Robust Funding to Address Affordable Housing Crisis

Rosen-Led Letters Request Funding for NeighborWorks and for Program to Tackle Veteran Homelessness

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has led dozens of Senate colleagues in letters to Senate appropriators urging them to provide at least $185 million in funding for NeighborWorks America to address the housing crisis by lowering costs with affordable housing assistance, and continued funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs and Supportive Housing program to address veteran homelessness by providing affordable housing vouchers to veterans.

“As you consider the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Act, we ask that you provide at least $185 million for the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, commonly known as NeighborWorks America,” wrote the Senators in support of NeighborWorks. “With the nation’s affordable housing crisis continuing to worsen, now is the time to increase our investment in ensuring that Americans have access to reasonably-priced and quality housing options.”

“HUD-VASH vouchers ensure that women and men in uniform who have sacrificed so much for our country have a stable place to call home and the supportive services they need to heal and rebuild their lives,” wrote the Senators in support of the HUD-VASH program. “That is why HUD-VASH funding must be increased, or at least remain level, to achieve the goal of ending homelessness among veterans.”

Senator Rosen has been actively working at the federal level to lower housing costs and increase the availability of affordable housing for Nevadans. In the FY22 government funding package, Senator Rosen secured $166 million for NeighborWorks and $50 million for HUD-VASH – amounting to a $10 million increase to support affordable housing for veterans. Rosen has also co-sponsored legislation that would create a bipartisan task force to better understand and address the affordable housing crisis.
