WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement in response to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s announcement of a final rule that would undermine the court-ordered Flores Settlement Agreement and allow the Administration to detain immigrant children and families indefinitely.
“This Administration’s new rule threatens to hold immigrant families, including young children, indefinitely,” said Senator Rosen. “No one, especially children, should ever be held in inhumane conditions under any circumstances for any period of time. “Just last month, I saw for myself the horrendous conditions of these overcrowded facilities that lack any capacity to care for the needs of children and families. I will continue to fight this Administration’s cruel treatment of migrant children and ensure that we treat immigrants with the dignity and compassion that represent our American values.”
