Rosen Votes to Fund the Government, Calls President’s Decision to Declare a National Emergency Reckless

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement in response to the President declaring a national emergency to fund his border wall. Rosen voted to pass H.J. Res. 31, an Omnibus spending package to keep the government open.

“While I’m relieved to see Congress pass a funding deal that keeps the government open, there is no justification for the President to declare a national emergency at the border. The powers of our co-equal branches of government are granted by the Constitution and were designed to prevent this very kind of unilateral and abusive action. This reckless move to circumvent Congress will only set a dangerous precedent,” said Senator Rosen. “We must continue fighting to reform our broken immigration system, but we cannot allow this Administration to continue using the livelihood of federal workers as political pawns. I voted for this Omnibus package because it will give the hundreds of thousands of federal workers and their families much-needed security and will hopefully move us past the harmful shutdown politics that this President has wrongfully used during his Administration.”
