Rosen Votes to Pass Historic Bipartisan Gun Reform and Mental Health Legislation, Bill Advances Out of Senate

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which would enhance background checks on firearm purchases for individuals under 21, fund the implementation of red flag laws, combat firearms trafficking, and make historic investments in school safety and mental health programs. The legislation now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives.

“After decades of inaction in Washington on reducing gun violence, including after the horrific 1 October shooting, the Senate has finally broken the logjam and passed the most significant breakthrough on gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years,” said Senator Rosen. “This bipartisan bill is a major step forward that will save lives by helping keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and increasing funding for mental health programs, and I look forward to it becoming law.”
