Rosen Co-Sponsors Bipartisan CARES Act of 2019, Renews Commitment to Fighting Autism

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, joined Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Mike Enzi (R-WY) in co-sponsoring the bipartisan Autism Coordination, Accountability, Research, Education and Support (CARES) Act of 2019, legislation to promote research, education and awareness into autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.

“No matter where I travel in Nevada, the number one thing keeping people up at night is their health care,” said Senator Rosen. “Individuals living with autism spectrum disorder often face even greater health challenges. This legislation aims to increase access to developmental-behavioral pediatrician training programs for rural and underserved areas to ensure we’re meeting the needs of ASD individuals and their families. I’ll continue to do my part in Congress to improve Nevadans access to quality, affordable, care.”

BACKGROUND: According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 59 children nationwide live with ASD.

The bipartisan CARES Act makes some small changes to the underlying programs to expand research and look at causes, early detection, prevention, and treatment.  It also allows developmental-behavioral pediatrician training programs to be prioritized for rural and underserved areas.
