Rosen Announces HHS Grants Totaling Over $1 Million to University of Nevada Reno and University of Nevada Las Vegas for Geriatric Workforce Enhancement

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, released the following statement applauding grants awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) for their geriatrics workforce enhancement programs.

“Part of my job as a Senator is to make life easier for the people of Nevada, including Nevada’s seniors,” said Senator Rosen. “I was proud to have worked to help secure this funding, and I applaud the Department of Health and Human Services for awarding these grants, which I know will go a long way in helping to enhance the health and well-being of Nevada’s seniors by building capacity among geriatrics workers across the state and addressing our provider shortage.”

BACKGROUND: The Department of Health and Human Services awarded a grant of approximately $611,000 to the University of Nevada Reno, and $749,000 to the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

In February, Senator Rosen wrote Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar in support of the University of Nevada Reno’s grant request.
