Rosen Celebrates Passage of Resolution Declaring February as American Heart Month, Calls for Senate to Defend Americans’ Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), released the following statement applauding Senate passage of a resolution she helped introduce declaring the month of February as American Heart Month, raising awareness of steps that can be taken to reduce risk of heart disease and promote heart health.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and we must raise awareness of this important topic, and what we can do to improve heart health,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to have helped introduce a resolution declaring February as American Heart Month. By raising awareness of the causes and remedies of heart disease we can take steps toward a healthier state and country. We can also commit ourselves to protecting access to quality, affordable care for all Americans. I will continue working to support policies that improve upon the Affordable Care Act so that Nevadans and all Americans across our nation have access to health care coverage.”

BACKGROUND: As her first action in the Senate, Rosen helped introduce a resolution that would authorize Senate Legal Counsel to intervene in Texas v. United States – a pending lawsuit in federal court, on behalf of the U.S. Senate, in order to defend the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
