WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement announcing housing and homeless funds included in the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that passed last week have reached Nevada. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development provided $20,629,106 in CARES Act grants to Nevada communities, to be used for the housing programs Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA).
“During this trying time, it is critical that Nevadans have access to housing where they can keep themselves safe and healthy,” said the Senators. “When Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES), we prioritized resources to help people experiencing homelessness and that supported families who might have trouble paying the rent. We will continue working to protect the health and safety of Nevadans, and this includes ensuring that housing is accessible to all.”
BACKGROUND: This grant funding was made available through the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which both Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto voted in support of, and was signed into law on March 27, 2020.
