Rosen Attends Virtual Grand Opening of Hope Springs Housing Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) participated in the virtual grand opening of Hope Springs, a Northern Nevada HOPES housing project, the first bridge-housing community in northern Nevada. In addition to providing housing, Hope Springs will offer casework management, medical and behavioral health care, and many other wrap-around support services to Nevadans transitioning out of homelessness.

“Permanent and stable housing is necessary for building robust, thriving neighborhoods,” said Senator Rosen. “Unfortunately, housing insecurity and homelessness have disproportionately impacted our state, leaving many Nevadans without the stability and security of a home. However, today, with the opening of Hope Springs, we take a bold step forward in the mission to address housing insecurity by giving Nevadans a roof over their head as they transition away from homelessness and work to get back on their feet. I look forward to partnering with Northern Nevada HOPES and working to ensure that all Nevadans have a safe and healthy place to call home.”

BACKGROUND: Last year, Senator Rosen was a co-sponsor of the Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Act, which authorizes $100 billion in emergency rental assistance to help tenants and landlords during the pandemic. This money will help tenants pay their rent and utility bills, with assistance benefiting tenants going directly to landlords so that both are made whole.

Last year, Rosen voted in support of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, legislation that, among other things, allows homeowners with mortgages backed by the federal government to defer mortgage payments for up to a year without fees or additional interest, provided $4 billion in Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funding to respond to and prevent outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness, and provided $1.25 billion in Tenant-Based Rental Assistance. Rosen partnered with local organizations to provide updates on the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis and answer questions on access to federal resources.

Senator Rosen has worked to address affordable housing issues in Nevada and, last year, introduced the Affordable Housing for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation to expand access to low-interest home loans for our veterans. Senator Rosen was a co-sponsor of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S. 1703), bipartisan legislation that would expand the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), which would encourage private investment in the production and preservation of affordable rental housing.

Last year, Rosen led a group of ten Senators in a letter urging the President to request increased funding for affordable housing in his FY 2021 Budget request to Congress, specifically for the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, also known as NeighborWorks America, a Congressionally-chartered, national nonprofit, whose programs offer critical affordable housing assistance to low- and middle-income Nevada families.
