Rosen Applauds Biden Administration Actions to Strengthen and Improve Access to Affordable Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), released the following statement applauding President Biden for taking action to strengthen our nation’s health care system, and improve access to quality, affordable health care for Americans:

“Access to quality, affordable health care is more important than ever before,” said Senator Rosen. “President Biden’s actions will reverse the previous Administrations’ reckless attacks on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. Additionally, today’s actions will open a special enrollment period, and direct federal agencies to reexamine policies that reduced coverage, affordability, and undermined protections for those with pre-existing conditions. I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to improve our nation’s health care, and I will not stop fighting to protect the health of all Nevadans.”

BACKGROUND: In one of her first actions in the Senate, Senator Rosen joined Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) in introducing a resolution to authorize Senate Legal Counsel to intervene in Texas v. United States – a lawsuit that was a precursor to the current case California v. Texas – on behalf of the U.S. Senate, in order to defend the Affordable Care Act and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Last Congress, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the Family Coverage Act, legislation that would amend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to provide tax credits to offset the cost of health insurance to spouses and children when an individual’s employer-sponsored coverage is not affordable for their family.

Last Congress, Senator Rosen also co-sponsored legislation to block implementation of the Trump Administration’s rule expanding short-term health insurance plans that do not include protections for pre-existing conditions or provide essential health benefits.
