Rosen Applauds Over 1 Million Dollars in Grant Funding for Water Restoration and Drought Resiliency Programs in Nevada

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement applauding news that the Bureau of Reclamation has awarded Nevada two WaterSMART grants totaling $1,037,723 to support two development projects aimed at water restoration and drought resiliency.

“Water management and reliability are critical for our state,” said Senator Rosen. “I applaud this grant funding, which will go toward projects that restore our waterways against water-borne diseases and help to protect Nevada’s ecosystems from future droughts. I will continue working to support programs that keep our water clean and protect our environment.”

BACKGROUND: The grant funding will be distributed as follows:

  • $848,372 to the Las Vegas Valley Water District, located in Clark County, Nevada, which will install five ultraviolet systems to treat Legionella pneumophila in five production wells. This project will allow the District to use the five groundwater wells as a new water supply providing an additional 4,033 acre-feet of water per year.
  • $189,351 to the Southern Nevada Water Authority who will restore 21 acres and protect an additional 24 acres of habitat from drought impacts at Warm Springs Natural Area, a 1,250-acre property near the town of Moapa, Nevada.
