WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), released the following statement commemorating National Public Health Week, and highlighting the public health provisions included in the recently enacted American Rescue Plan.
“With all the uncertainty COVID-19 has brought, we must continue taking necessary and proven public health precautions to protect our health and the health of our communities,” said Senator Rosen. “In honor of National Public Health Week, let us recognize medical and public health professionals’ commitment to getting Nevada and our country through this pandemic. We must ensure that we fully support these hardworking professionals and our public health programs during this challenging time. I was proud to vote in favor of the American Rescue Plan, which provides over $93 billion in support of national public health initiatives. I urge my fellow Nevadans to continue following health and safety guidelines, wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands, and get vaccinated when able.”
BACKGROUND: National Public Health Week, observed annually during the first week of April, is a time to recognize the contributions of public health programs and public health professionals and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health and well-being. This year’s theme is “Building Bridges to Better Health.”
Senator Rosen helped secure over $93 billion in support for public health programs – including delivery and distribution of vaccines, COVID-19 testing and tracing, funding for community health centers, and expanding access to PPE – as part of the American Rescue Plan.
