Senator Rosen Strongly Condemns Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine, Calls for U.S. to Impose Crippling Sanctions on Russia and Bolster Ukraine’s Defense

Rosen, a Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Calls for Decisive Action to Hold Russia Accountable

LAS VEGAS, NV– U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine:

“I stand in full solidarity with the people of Ukraine and strongly condemn Vladimir Putin’s invasion after recognizing the independence of two separatist-controlled regions in eastern Ukraine. Putin’s violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty upends the international principles that sustain peace and security,” said Senator Rosen. “The United States must impose crippling sanctions against Putin and Russia, while continuing to support Ukraine through security assistance and help our strategic partner to defend itself. We must also continue to strengthen the security of our NATO allies and demonstrate that the transatlantic community remains united. The United States has assembled a robust international coalition to confront Russian aggression, and the Administration should continue to exhaust all tools to stop Russia.”

Senator Rosen is a co-sponsor of the Defending Ukraine Sovereignty Act, which would impose punishing economic and other consequences on Russia if it further invades or undermines Ukrainian sovereignty. She also voted last month in favor of sanctions targeting Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline. In addition, Senator Rosen is a co-sponsor of a bipartisan Senate resolution supporting an independent and democratic Ukraine against Russian military aggression, which recently passed the Senate unanimously.
