Rosen Applauds $150,000 in Grant Funding Awarded to UNR to Combat Drought in Nevada

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement applauding the National Science Foundation for awarding nearly $150,000 in funding to the University of Nevada, Reno to develop a “Nevada Water” partnership made up of water suppliers, users, policy-makers, and academics whose primary goal will be to develop solutions to combat drought in Nevada through research and education.

“With Nevada currently experiencing drought, it is critical that we make a concerted effort to conserve the water we have,” said Senator Rosen. “I applaud the National Science Foundation for awarding this grant to UNR to improve water efficiency and resiliency in our communities. I will continue working to support federal grant programs like this one to address critical urban and rural water sustainability issues across our state.”

Last November, the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was signed into law. As part of the bipartisan working group that drafted the legislation, Senator Rosen helped secure several key provisions that will benefit Nevada including $8.3 billion in overall investment for Western water systems, $1 billion for water recycling and reuse projects, and $55 billion in investments for clean water.
