WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will receive $1,149,037 for university programs that are funding innovative clean-energy and technology startups. These Economic Development Administration (EDA) grants will help create jobs and drive economic growth and diversification in Clark County.
“By investing in innovative technologies and clean energy, we are making Nevada a leader in the industries of the future,” said Senator Rosen. “I am proud to announce this funding will support the next generation of entrepreneurs in Clark County, while creating good-paying jobs, and helping us achieve our climate goals.”
“Nevada is full of innovators and entrepreneurs who are helping drive a more sustainable future, create jobs, and diversify our economy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This grant funding I fought for will ensure Southern Nevada remains a leader in clean-energy and cutting-edge technology.”
UNLV will receive $749,037 to fund their Accelerate Electric Nevada Renewable Energy Cluster Development project and an additional $400,000 for their Scarlet Venture Fund. Both programs will support clean energy and innovative technology startup companies in Clark County.
Both Rosen and Cortez Masto helped secure historic EDA funding for Nevada in the American Rescue Plan, and recently announced that the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has been designated as a Tech Hub for innovation and job creation.
