WASHINGTON, DC – A new report released by the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) shows that the average U.S. household has already spent an average of $700 more in the first eight months under President Donald Trump, including nearly $1,000 more for Nevada families — among the highest in the nation. The report, which estimates how much more families must spend to afford the same items each month, underscores how inflation since President Trump took office in January is hurting Americans. The report uses the same methods that Joint Economic Committee Republicans used under the last administration to estimate state-level costs.
“Donald Trump promised to bring prices down ‘on day one,’” said Senator Rosen. “This grim report shows how Trump’s reckless policies and tariffs are doing the opposite: raising costs and hurting hardworking Nevadans. It’s unacceptable, and I’m going to keep fighting to lower costs & repeal Trump’s harmful policies.”

Senator Rosen has helped lead the fight to push back against Trump’s reckless tariffs. Last month, she voted to pass bipartisan legislation to end Donald Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, which are raising costs on everyday essentials like coffee. Earlier this year, she signed on to an amicus brief challenging them in court. She also helped introduce the Tariff Transparency Act, which would require the U.S. International Trade Commission to study and publicly report on the economic effects of tariffs on Canada and Mexico– key trading partners for Nevada industries. Senator Rosen also helped pass a bipartisan resolution to strike down Trump’s tariffs on Canada earlier this year, which is awaiting action in the House of Representatives.
