Rosen Helps Pass Bipartisan Package Through Senate to Address Housing Crisis

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass a bipartisan package in the Senate to address the housing crisis. The bipartisan Housing for the 21st Century Act aims to increase the amount of houses built while keeping prices low for hardworking Americans. A report last year ranked Nevada as the state with the second highest number of cost-burdened renters and homeowners, with over 50 percent of Nevada renters and homeowners paying more than 35 percent of their monthly income on rent or mortgage. Nevada also ranked last in availability of affordable housing for low-income households.

The Housing for the 21st Century Act contains over forty provisions to lower housing costs, including creating federal incentives for municipalities that successfully build more housing by providing grants to assist states and localities with planning and implementation efforts. It also streamlines the approval process for new housing, bringing down construction costs for new buildings.

“Hardworking Nevadans are dealing with high costs of housing and rent, squeezing their budgets and forcing them to make tough decisions. I’m laser focused on tackling the housing affordability issue from all angles – from removing tariffs on  homebuilding materials to cracking down on corporate price gouging in the housing market,”  says Senator Rosen. “I am proud to have helped pass this comprehensive bipartisan package in the Senate to help fight the housing crisis, increase the housing supply, and give thousands of Nevadans the opportunity to afford a place to live.”

Senator Rosen has fought to make housing more affordable in Nevada. This year, she has introduced legislation to exclude homebuilding materials from Trump’s tariffs, and called on the administration to crack down on corporate price gouging in the housing market. Her bipartisan CONSTRUCTS Act would invest in training the construction workforce in order to help increase the housing supply and lower housing costs for Nevadans. Senator Rosen has also joined legislation to increase housing credit allocation for each state and secured funding to support housing for homeless veterans
