On National Purple Heart Day, I want to thank the men and women in uniform who have made sacrifices in the line of duty. Recently, my team helped two Nevada veterans, Former Army Staff Sergeant Thomas Martin and Retired Sergeant First Class Thomas Koehler, secure Purple Heart medals they earned but had not been awarded due to delays. I even had the honor of presenting SFC Koehler with the medal during a ceremony in Las Vegas.
I'll always stand with our veterans and ensure those who served our nation get the support, benefits, and recognition they deserve. The Purple Heart is one of the most recognizable military decorations awarded by the United States Armed Forces. It honors service members who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving in combat. In Nevada, we proudly recognize the sacrifices of these courageous men and women through the designation of the Purple Heart Highway in Southern Nevada and the issuance of Purple Heart specialty license plates for recipients of this distinguished award. These tributes serve as lasting reminders of the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation's Purple Heart recipients.
