As Jews across the world continue to be targeted and discriminated against, I traveled to Poland to bear witness to the devastation caused by one of the darkest chapters in history — a reminder of what happens when society ignores hate, and discrimination against a minority is allowed to grow unchallenged.
During my trip, I visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camps and paid tribute to the more than 1 million Jews and innocent individuals who were violently murdered there at the hands of the Nazi regime.
While I was there, I reflected on the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust and laid a wreath on behalf of the American people at the Death Wall, where thousands of innocent victims were murdered.
No matter how difficult it may be, it’s more important than ever that we all learn the lessons of this dark chapter in history and never forget what happened there. Only then can we ensure that Never Again truly means never again.

239 years ago, our nation’s Founding Fathers wrote the United States Constitution – laying the foundation for a system of government that has lasted for generations and the fundamental rights that we hold dear today.
We must never take our freedoms for granted as we carry forward the great vision our founders had on September 17, 1787. Happy Constitution Day!
