I’m deeply disturbed by this antisemitic act of hate targeting Congregation Beth Israel in Austin, Texas. This is a hate crime meant to intimidate and silence the local Jewish community. But it won't work.
As a former synagogue president, I know how important federal security funding is to protect our places of worship from hateful and violent acts. Unfortunately, programs like the Nonprofit Security Grant Program aren't processing lifesaving grants due to the House Republican shutdown of the Dept. of Homeland Security. That is why I've supported multiple bills to fund FEMA and ensure that at-risk nonprofits and faith institutions are safe from this kind of bigotry.
