Last year, the Trump Admin announced plans to dismantle Job Corps – a program that helps young people learn the skills they need to access good-paying, in-demand jobs.
At the time, I read a letter I received from a student named Samuel on the Senate floor. Samuel told me he has struggled with health issues that have made school difficult for him – but Sierra Nevada Job Corps has offered him “a safe haven, a community, and a path forward.”
Thanks to the advocacy of students like Samuel, the Trump Admin reversed their plans to shut down Job Corps. I was glad to have the chance to call Samuel to thank him for speaking up for this important program and promise to keep fighting to keep Job Corps alive for him and the students who will come after him.
