Canada is one of Nevada’s top trading partners, and the only thing that Donald Trump’s reckless attack on our neighbor to the north has accomplished is further devastation of Nevada’s economy with higher prices on everyday essentials and a decline in tourism.

Since Trump began his wholly unnecessary trade war with Canada, Nevada has seen a decline in Canadian tourists, and now their retaliatory tariffs will hurt Nevada exporters and small businesses. In the last few summers, Southern Nevada has seen long stretches of days over 100°F, record-breaking temperatures, and, sadly, hundreds of deaths from heat-related causes. As a result of these extreme heat waves, Nevadans are paying sky-high prices just to keep their homes cool.

I’m proud to have helped secure more than $1.5 million in federal funding from the Weatherization Assistance Program, which will help lower electric costs for Nevadans as extreme heat waves force them to consume more energy.
