WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, during a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) questioned Captain Donald L. Moak and William D. Zollars, nominees to serve on the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, about the Postal Service’s central role in responding to national crises, and about innovative ways in which its expansive network can be used to respond to this pandemic and future emergencies.
“The past several months have taught us that neither snow, nor rain, nor global pandemic will stop the incredible men and women of the U.S. Postal Service from doing their jobs,” said Senator Rosen. “Tens of millions of Americans are out of work, countless others are staying home because they are sick or immunocompromised, stores are closed because of the pandemic, and the Postal Service and its employees have never been more important to us. Nevadans and all Americans rely on USPS to receive their medicine, their CARES Act stimulus checks, their Social Security benefits, and supplies from PPE to laptops for students now learning from home.”
“As we continue to combat COVID-19, and as we prepare for the next pandemic or other crisis, how can the Postal Service use its network to innovate and aid the nation when other institutions and entities are unable to function normally?” asked Senator Rosen.
