WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) released the following statement announcing that as a result of the FY2020 AmeriCorps State and National Grant Competition, Nevada organizations will receive more than $3,758,632 in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps and other national service programs.
“During this difficult time, it is more important than ever that we fund organizations that provide on the ground services in Nevada,” said the Senators. “This funding will allow these organizations to tackle many of the challenges that our state faces. We will continue to advocate for funding and support that better enables our state’s organizations to care for our state and the people who call it home.”
BACKGROUND: Nevada will receive a total of $3,758,623 in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps and other national service programs. Through this competition, three successful grantees operating in Nevada will receive $1,316,842 in competitive funding from CNCS to support approximately 241 AmeriCorps members. Nevada Volunteers, the Governor-appointed state service commission, will also receive $1,736,190 in formula funding, which will in turn be awarded to Nevada organizations to support additional AmeriCorps members in the coming months. The funding breakdown amongst the three Nevada organizations is:
- Great Basin Institute – $595,000
- Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation – $481,918
- Nye Communities Coalition – $239,924
