WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) helped introduce a bipartisan resolution commending Taiwan for its commitment to democratic elections and institutions, despite ongoing threats from the Chinese Communist Party. This resolution comes ahead of Taiwan’s upcoming presidential and legislative elections set to occur on Saturday, January 13.
“As the Chinese Communist Party continues its attempts to undermine democracy in Taiwan, we must show the world that the United States will always stand firmly with our democratic partners,” said Senator Rosen. “Ahead of Taiwan’s elections this weekend, I’m proud to help introduce this bipartisan resolution commending the strength of their democracy despite ongoing threats from the Chinese Communist Party.”

Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have been working to support Taiwan and push back against influence from the Chinese Communist Party. Senator Rosen’s Taiwan Cybersecurity Resiliency Act, which requires the U.S. Department of Defense to expand cybersecurity cooperation with Taiwan to help them counter cyber threats from China, recently became law. Last Congress, Senator Cortez Masto helped introduce bipartisan legislation to support Taiwan’s public health efforts against threats from the Chinese government.
